Backlit Signs & Graphics Printing and Install
Backlit display graphics are designed to enhance visibility with the aid of a light source from behind the graphic.
These signs are a great way to increase visibility, as they are bright and stand out from the general signs and continue to engage your target customer base.
Backlit lighting requires two major components: a Lightbox and the Printed Graphic. There are several things you should consider to ensure you have the right lightbox that fits your needs.
How to Choose Backlit LED Lightbox?
When choosing a lightbox, consider the following 3 things:
- Graphic size
- Graphic location
- Longevity / durability
You also need to decide on the type of lightbox. The 3 most common lightboxes are fluorescent, LED, and edge-lit LED.
Then you need to select the right backlit material. For this you need to know what kind of backlit paper you need and what kind of printable film will work well. You might also want to consider Inkjet Backlit Film, or Vinyl/Fabric base.
What Are Backlit Decals?
Do you want to make your sign shine bright both night and day? A custom backlit decal could be the ideal solution. A backlit decal is typically made from 3.5 mil adhesive vinyl and is designed to withstand indoor and outdoor elements as well as exposure to heat from light sources. Its flexibility means it can be easily applied to lightbox sign panels, windows or any other smooth translucent surfaces for radiant backlit signs. Easy to install on glass, acrylic or molded resin, you are guaranteed to have captivating backlit signs that will last. Additionally, removal is easy, which is very helpful when you need to switch decals on your backlit signs. The decals go through the best printing technology, meaning your backlit sign will display clearly and beautifully, whether day or night.

Common Questions About Backlit Signs
Q. Would you recommend turning the sign off when the business is closed, or is it okay to leave it on continuously?
A. Having your sign on a timer so it turns off at night would be the best practice. By using a timer to automatically turn off the sign at specific times, you will extend the useful life of your backlit signs. However, if your sign still gets exposure to walking traffic even at off-hours, you might consider keeping it on. We recommend having a timer switch it off when there is the lowest traffic.
Q. Can I choose coloured LEDs?
A. Yes. At The Sign & Graphics Manufaktur, we also offer full-colour RGB LEDs. You can, therefore, choose any colour on the spectrum for your backlit signs. If you would like to have your LEDs in colour, be sure to specify RGB LEDs when ordering. Alternatively, you can go with the default option of white LEDs.
Q. What if one of the LED’s burns out?
A. Thanks to advancements in LED technology, you will rarely see an LED light burning out in backlit signs. If anything, it is the power adapter that needs to be replaced over time, which can be easily done.
